At the moment, in order to make content available on the platform to a user we have to directly notify them (via slack) with the language 'you have been assigned'. I understand that email notifications can be toggled, but this isn't the case for slack. We have many events or bits of optional learning that I want people to be able to access and have visibility of in an optional way. My concern is that for the people that choose to not engage with that content, they could be annoyed by the notification or confused by the 'assign' language and switch off their slack notifications and miss other things that are important. I would like to have full control over notifications including slack & on the platform.

I also wonder if the 'assigned' language is always right, assigned has connotations of 'must do' whereas in almost all cases it is optional.
